Mycoplasma infections are a prevalent issue in laboratory cell cultures, with these microorganisms known to affect cell growth rates, trigger chromosomal aberrations, impact amino acid and nucleic acid metabolism, and induce membrane irregularities. The Mycoplasma PCR Detection Kit offers a swift and dependable method for identifying mycoplasma contamination within cell cultures. This kit amplifies Mycoplasma DNA present in the cell culture supernatant through PCR and subsequently visualizes it using gel electrophoresis. Beyond its expedited detection timeframe of less than 2 hours, the kit's ease of use and high sensitivity render it an invaluable tool for the routine screening of cell cultures and media, ensuring the integrity and reliability of laboratory research.
The kit contains an optimized PCR master mix and a positive control. The primers in the PCR master mix are highly specific to the conserved rDNA region in the mycoplasma genomes and can detect all well-known mycoplasma genera, including the commonly encountered ones in cell cultures, such as M. orale, M. hyorhinis, M. laidlawii, M. salivarium, M. arginini, M. fermentans, M. hominis, and M. pneumoniae. Mycoplasma positive samples can be easily recognized by a distinctive PCR product ranging in size from 400 to 600 bp.
