The transgene was modified form of human Gi-coupled M4 muscarinic receptor, belonging to a class of chemogenetic receptors called designer receptors exclusively activated by designer drugs (DREADD) which allows engagement of the Gi signaling pathway in the presence of the synthetic ligand clozapine-N-oxide (CNO), leading to intracellular calcium ion release and inhibit neuronal excitation.
